Christmas is a Reminder That the Ordinary is Often the Crucible for the Extraordinary

Jesus Himself is the prime example. Son of God, creator of the universe, promised one of Israel, savior of the world….born in a manger with the livestock!

His earthly mother, Mary, was a woman not of worldly wealth and grandeur but from simple and ordinary people. Yet without great explanation of the miracle of God that was being worked in her and through her, she responds, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.”

Each Christmas I am inspired by the life of Mary, the mother of Jesus. Her response to an overwhelming announcement by an angel that she would give birth to the Son of God, is faith inspiring.

She was a teenage girl who was chosen to be impregnated by the Holy Spirit, chosen to be the instrument through whom God would take on flesh and become our Redeemer!

Imagine all of the questions in Mary's mind? Yet her response shows her wiling, expectant and obedient heart. “ My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,” (Luke 1:47-48)

Our prayer for you this Christmas is a Mary kind of faith. That you too will find joy in being a wiling, expectant and obedient follower of Jesus, who is the Christ.
