Dear friend,
The impacts of Genesis 3 continue their destructive outcomes today.
In commenting on Genesis 3, the power of the fall of Adam and Eve, and, the need to reject all emotions that call us to hide from the residue of flesh still in us, commentator Albert Barnes says,
“Hence, the consciousness of a fallen soul has its lucid intervals, in which the conscience gives a verdict and guides the will. But these intervals become less frequent and less decisive as the entanglements of ever-multiplying sinful acts wind round the soul and aggravate its bondage and its blindness.” Barnes on Genesis 3:13
The impact of the decisions we make allow the righteousness that we were given in Jesus to live in those of us who follow Him. Allowing the rebellion in our bodies to gain an upper hand, corrupts the human experience.
The impact of this failure to allow righteousness to reign, makes an even wider impact on believers than just a person alone. Hardly a week goes by when I don’t become aware about another church leader who sinned publicly, demonstrating that this rebellion was working unseen longer than we would have imagined. Many are disappointed and affected.
God has designed increasing victory for His children. But, we must recognize it and embrace God’s provision.
We must recognize that the gateways designed by God to define human existence, meant to be gateways of righteousness, are assaulted by Satan in an attempt to derail and even destroy our faith. If we fail to understand this, we open ourselves up to walking as perpetually wounded people when God has designed us to be more than conquerors.
With this in mind, I re-read my short book on the topic, “Freedom from the bondage of the flesh.” As I reflect upon the small contributions that God has allowed me to make to the global task of evangelization, especially through writing, this shortest of books, may be the most important.
I commend it to you. If there is something more that I can do to assist you in forming leadership to which you are connected, grow in victory, let me know. You can find the book address below. “Freedom from the bondage of the flesh.”
